Sonos. What To Buy

1. Where Do You Want Music. Which Rooms?

i.e Living Room, Kitchen, Garden, Master Bedroom etc. Make a quick list.

2. Broadband Internet Connection

Do you have a router connected to the internet in any of the rooms you have decided upon in step 1?. You need a broadband internet connection and a router to use Sonos. One Sonos Zoneplayer or a Sonos Zonebridge must be connected directly to your router using an ethernet cable. All other Sonos Zoneplayers and Sonos Controllers will connect wirelessly though unless you choose to 'wire' them together with ethernet cables. Talk to us about custom installation projects.

If you dont have a router in any of the rooms where you want to have music in then you will need a Sonos Zonebridge BR100. The Sonos Zonebridge is connected directly to your router and activates your Sonos wireless network without using up a Sonos Zoneplayer in a room where you dont want music.

If your router is connected to the internet in a room where you do want music then lets go to step 3 and work out which Sonos Zoneplayers you will need.

3. For each room think about whether you already have speakers or amplified audio equipment in that room, examples as follows:

Stereo With Speakers

Home Cinema/Theatre Receiver with Speakers

Powered/Computer Speakers Only

Speakers Only

None of the above

You will need a Sonos Zoneplayer ZP90 if you have any of the first three types of amplified audio equipment in that room (Stereo With Speakers, Home Cinema/Theatre Receiver with Speakers, Powered/Computer Speakers Only).

The ZP90 is the non-amplified Sonos Zoneplayer so it is designed to connect to other amplified audio equipment.

You will need a Sonos Zoneplayer ZP120 if you have speakers only in that room or nothing at all.

The ZP120 is the amplified Sonos Zoneplayer. You can just connect it to your choice of speakers.

4. Controllers. We recommend at least one wireless controller

Sonos Controller CR100. Wirelessly control any combination or all of your Zoneplayers at the same time with the CR100. You may want to add more controllers depending on the size of your home. Also consider the Apple iPhone and Apple Touch which can be used as additional wireless controllers courtesy of a free software aplication download available from the Apple store. Mix and match with Sonos controllers and Apple iPhone or Apple Touch, they will quite happily work together.

5. Charging Cradle. One per Sonos Controller CR100

The Sonos Charging Cradle CC100 is the perfect charging and resting place for your Sonos Controller CR100. Mount it on the wall with the pre-supplied bracket, anchors and screws, or place it on a flat surface such as a table top or work surface.
